The Senate

Picture
The US Senate is the part of Congress that is meant to favor less populated states.  It accomplishes this by allowing only 2 Senators per state with a total of 100 members.  These 2 Senators, the Senior Senator and Junior Senator, are each elected to a 6 year term, allowing them to do more governing and worry less about politics.  The Senior Senator is the Senator that has been in the Senate for a longer period of time.  Constitutionally speaking, each Senator must be at least 30 years old, be a citizen of the US for 9 years, and also be a resident of the State in which they are representing.  The leader of the Senate is the the Vice President, or in his absence, the President Pro Tempore who is typically the oldest member of the Senate.  Other leaders are the Majority and Minority Leaders, who are the spokespeople for their respective parties.
